Caldecott Award Books

The Randolph Caldecott Medal

Some of the most well-known illustrated stories for children are also Caldecott award books. Since 1937, the Randolph Caldecott Medal has been given to artists who illustrate outstanding children's picture books.

This bronze metal was named after Randolph Caldecott, an influential children's illustrator from the 19th century. His unique images were complementary to the stories they accompanied. The medal's image is from Caldecott's book, The Diverting Story of John Gilpin. Runners-up to this award receive the Caldecott Honor Seal.

Here are the 21st century Caldecott winners.
